Looking to Understand Yourself Better?

With 17 years as a therapist (UKCP) and 10 years as a physics teacher (PGCE), I love to help people discover their inner selves.

My name is Emma and I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor based in Littlehampton, West Sussex.

I have over 16 years experience as a psychotherapist and over ten years experience as a teacher. I love helping people to remove blockages and obstacles so that they can be the wonderful authentic selves that sometimes gets hidden even from ourselves.

My goal is for people to learn to be their own therapist or counsellor, to learn that their own inner being can guide them so that they can reach the springboard to finding the joy, freedom and growth everyone deserves in life.

I specialise in supporting those having difficulties with:

Trauma

Stress & Tension

Relationships

Panic Attacks

Anxiety

Bereavement

Redundancy

Depression

Addictions

Anger

If you are experiencing any of the above, please get in touch and let's see how I can help.

Therapy for the Individual

My therapy practice has evolved over the years. I incorporate what I have learnt from my own trainings and life experiences to bring a sense of awareness and authenticity to any problem that is presented to me, be it my own or someone else's. My first therapy training was influenced by John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth, Mary Main, Karen Horney, Alice Miller and Sigmund Freud. It helped me understand the importance of our early childhood experiences.

I have a training in sand-tray and art therapy which was influenced by Alice Miller and Rudolf Steiner, this creative way of exploring problems helps to symbolise the words , which often feel too fleeting. I have had therapy with a Jungian Analyst, which helped me to do my own shadow work , this resulted in cathartic dreams and a renewed sense of individual freedom and an awareness of unhelpful judgements of society.

Systemic Constellations is a therapy developed by Bert Hellinger and has its roots in tribal healing rituals. It is a powerful way to heal ancestral traumas, by looking at the different parts of ourselves from all the different influences in our lives, included those influences that we now know affect us from the moment we are conceived.  I have completed the foundation course with the Centre for Systemic Constellations. I have completed a facilitators practice course with Brendan and Eileen O’Brien of Family Constellations Ireland. I am currently being supervised by some Elders of the Systemic Constellation movement and find Systemic Constellations a very powerful tool to one’s own discovery of self and where we have come from ancestrally , that is still affecting our lives today. I am always keeping to share this powerful method to help people live without the entanglements of their past.

Each session is unique and I am always profoundly moved when clients speak from their heart and soul so that together we can move towards a more authentic and fulfilling life. Click here to get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why contact me?

*Right Brain Answer (a more emotionally visceral response)

I love listening to people talking from their heart and soul. I have also experienced my own heart and soul being listened to on many occasions, which is a truly wonderful experience. I hope everyone can experience this in their lives. When we connect with someone on this level our natural self emerges and the answers that we need arrive spontaneously from the dynamic of the intimate relationship.

*Left Brain Answer (a more logical scientific response)

I am a UKCP accredited attachment-based psychotherapist with 12 years experience and I’m a qualified physics teacher, with ten years experience. I have a passion for working with people who want to learn about their own worlds, both outer and inner worlds. We need others to understand ourselves. As Einstein said , ‘no problem can be solved from the mind that created it.’ Research on the best psychotherapists has revealed that being humane and interested in people is a major characteristic needed for the best outcome for clients.

Most people would have no problem seeking professional help for a broken bone, but would be less likely to look for help when they have an emotional problem.

How long will I need counselling or therapy for?

This varies and is up to you. I would recommend at least 4 sessions to start with to explore all the basics tools that you need to help yourself with your emotions so that you can continue to 'self- therapy' without a therapist. Some people like to look at themselves deeply and decide on therapy for several months. It is important for us together to always check that you are growing emotionally whilst in therapy. The importance of a therapist is to teach you how to allow your natural growth. The therapist is just a catalyst to foster your independence and then interdependence so that you can live life to it's full potential.

Will therapy help me?

I have a belief that therapy can help anyone. Of course the match between the therapist and the client is very important. After the first session we will decide together if we feel that a working relationship can be established.
